THE PRACTICE
Since its foundation in 2004 as a small practice in the town of Ermelo, Hannes Zwarts Eye Care has grown into one of the most reputable and respected practices in the province. It has always been their aim to practice full scope Optometry and the practice is equipped with state of the art diagnostic instrumentation and has the necessary certification to use and prescribe diagnostic – and therapeutic pharmaceuticals.
Although the practice had an in house laboratory for the cutting of lenses from the start, it now also boasts a full-fledged laboratory imported from Kentucky U.S.A. able to manufacture a variety of spectacle lenses within an hour. A satellite practice was opened in 2011 in the neighbouring town of Bethal and eventually merged with the Ermelo branch after 10 years.
THE OPTOMETRIST
The founder of Hannes Zwarts Eye Care, Hannes Zwarts, was born and raised in Standerton. He graduated in 2001 from Rand Afrikaans University and received the award for the best clinical Optometry student. After his training he briefly joined a practice in his home town before opening his own practice in Ermelo 2004.
Hannes practices full scope Optometry and has completed post graduate studies in advanced diagnostic skills through the University of Kwazulu Natal, and therapeutic pharmaceutical applications through a collaboration between U.K.Z.N. and State University Of New York.
Hannes takes pride in his ever increasing patient base, with patients from Swaziland, Mozambique and all over South Africa. When not taking care of patients he has a broad array of hobbies ranging from kitesurfing to trading the financial markets. He is married to Izelde and together they are self-proclaimed foodies, happiest when on a road trip exploring the next authentic place to eat or drink.
